After having a heart attack I knew it was time to quit smoking and do what I could to make it stick this time. I first went to a psychologist who wanted to move me from one addiction to another, vaping. That made little sense to me. Hypnotherapy good, but what about other options?

Champix or zyban?

Some people think tablets may be an easy way to quit: Champix tablets (varenicline) which can cause sleeplessness and difficulty concentrating, decreased heart rate and increased appetite or weight gain. The most common side-effect associated with Champix is nausea. Other common side effects include headache, difficulty sleeping and abnormal dreams. Champix may produce dizziness and sleepiness.
Zyban tablets (bupropion) also used as an anti-depressant also has an impressive list of possible side effects including agitation, dry mouth, dry mouth, headache, dizziness, nausea, stomach pain, constipation, insomnia, weight loss or gain, changes in appetite, loss of interest in sex, ringing in your ears, sore throat, muscle pain, itching or skin rash, increased urination. Seizures may also occur, especially at higher doses of Zyban
So still thinking tablets are an easy way to quit?

Nicotine replacement therapies (NRT)?

Nicotine replacement therapies (NRT), including patches, gum, lozenges, microtabs, inhalators, nasal sprays E-cigs and Vapes.
NRT products. A nicotine patch releases nicotine slowly into your system to help keep you on a constant level, while a fast-acting product such as an inhaler, spray or lozenge helps you deal with any immediate cravings. Yes you can buy most of these thing over the counter, and keep spending your hard earned cash to keep feeding your nicotine monster. And they cause you to have cravings. You tell me:
Would you tell the cocaine addict to quit by chewing cocaine gums? Or would you tell the cocaine addict to detox by spraying more cocaine in his mouth? Of course not. Nicotine replacement is not always the answer.

Electronic cigarettes or vaping?

Electronic cigarettes or vaping, these battery-operated devices that are made to look like a cigarette and turns liquid from a cartridge into an aerosol, or as they prefer to call it: vapour. Glamorous? Modern? Harmless?

The World Health Organisation recommended that e-cigarettes should be banned indoors.
In the summer of 2019, the news started reporting more and more deaths linked directly to the Vape. Various states in the USA have banned Vapes, and stores such as Walmart will no longer stock them, India is the first of many countries to ban them.New research is telling us for the first time that nicotine, whatever its source, can harm lung tissue.
So in this respect, the scientists conclude, vaping would be no better for the lungs than tobacco.

Margaret, a 90-year old (not a typo!) musician from Manhattan, has been tobacco-free for a whopping 26 years, after a pack-a-day smoking career that spanned six decades. She’d quit before, cold turkey, but lasted only two days before she relapsed. Years later, she decided to try hypnosis at the recommendation of a trusted friend. “It wasn’t scary,” she remembers. “I was quite unaware that I was being hypnotized. The hypnosis was just deep enough for everything she said to take root. She told me that I shouldn’t ever touch another cigarette, not to think I can smoke and get away with it, and that one cigarette can restart the addiction over again. It was very easy. I was really quite surprised.” Margaret hasn’t taken a puff since.

I have a few things that I would like to share with anyone interested. I am sure that many of smokers have heard from the dreaded x- smoker. Always complaining about your smoke. It gets so annoying that at times you light up to piss them off. Now after 44 years of smoking I realized that I wish I would have listened. 12 years ago I was diagnosed with COPD. COPD is a progressive disease which means it keeps getting worse. Five years ago I was told that my disease had now reached Stage Four also known as end stage COPD. My doctors said they would be surprised if I lived for another 5 years. I have beaten that. Let me tell you. Every day when I go to sleep I wonder if tonight is the night that I will not wake up. Breathing is horrible. I am on 4 litres of oxygen just enough to keep me alive. Any type of activity sends my oxygen level to critical levels. Cathy and I have made some plans of what we wanted to do when we retire. As I am sure most of you all have. For me my plans are no longer achievable. My stubbornness when I was younger has now ruined not mine but my wife’s planes after retirement. This is not fair. She will be left alone when the time comes to enjoy our life together. Three weeks ago I was diagnosed with lung cancer in both lungs. I cannot be treated like most people because of the conditions of my lungs. I have begun Radiation treatment on my left lung first. The reason I am posting this is to possible get someone’s attention to quit. To save one life would be fantastic this is why I write this, with the hope that someone will quit. Love you all.
